Overview

The CBP Aircraft Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and modifying aircraft structures and components, ensuring the operational readiness of aircraft for Customs and Border Protection. This role requires technical expertise in various aircraft systems and the ability to solve complex problems.

Responsibilities

• Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions.
• Perform daily, flight line, and hangar maintenance on all assigned aircraft.
• Conduct inspections, corrosion control, troubleshooting, and fault isolation on aircraft systems.
• Furnish own hand tools for aircraft maintenance, with special tools provided by Customs.
• Occasionally lead teams through complex aircraft tasks.
• Make entries in aircraft logs and records as required.
• Prioritize workload schedules on assigned projects.
• Travel periodically in support of customers' missions.

Requirements

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance; US Citizenship required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Must hold a current airframe and power plant mechanic (A&P) certificate.
• Competent in the repair and maintenance of airframes, hydraulics, fuel systems, and aircraft engines.
• Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair.
• Working knowledge of military and general aviation aircraft airframe and engine logbooks.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment and torque wrenches.
• Working knowledge of technical publications.
• Able to follow procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.
• Proficient in Office software applications, especially Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to meet required deadlines and maintain necessary workflow.
• Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
