Overview

Jobot is seeking a Structural Designer II to design heavy industrial equipment, skids, and hot exhaust ducting. The company, founded nearly 60 years ago, specializes in manufacturing capital equipment for industrial customers to control air pollution and meet environmental compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, and material take-offs for heavy industrial equipment.
• Design hot exhaust and flue gas ducting, including casings, transitions, and structural supports.
• Develop structural layouts using typical industrial structural members.
• Produce drawings for customer review, material procurement, shop fabrication, and equipment installation.
• Incorporate thermal expansion, operating temperature, mechanical loading, and fabrication requirements into designs.
• Design and coordinate equipment skids and supporting structural assemblies.
• Coordinate ducting and equipment interfaces with related systems.
• Review engineering and project inputs for completeness and identify discrepancies.
• Perform geometric and material calculations involving dimensions and material quantities.
• Prepare accurate bills of materials and material take-offs.
• Revise drawings based on engineering reviews and project changes.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Project Management, Sales, and manufacturing teams.
• Interpret P&IDs and incorporate process requirements into layouts.
• Apply knowledge of industrial welding practices and fabrication limitations.
• Follow document-control requirements for drawing releases and project records.
• Support continuous improvements to design standards and execution efficiency.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Computer-Aided Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3–5 years of industrial structural or mechanical design experience.
• Strong hands-on proficiency with Autodesk Inventor for 3D modeling.
• Experience designing heavy industrial equipment.
• Strong background designing with structural steel members.
• Experience designing equipment skids and structural frames.
• Experience producing fabrication-ready drawings for industrial ductwork.
• Ability to create accurate material take-offs from 3D models.
• Understanding of industrial welding practices and fabrication processes.
• Ability to perform geometric and material calculations.
• Experience interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
• Exposure to elevated-temperature equipment and thermal expansion is preferred.
• Familiarity with SCR systems and pollution-control equipment is helpful.
• Proficiency with document control and technical file-management procedures.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel less than 5%.
• No professional license or additional certification is required.

Additional Information

• Remote candidates will be considered, although candidates in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro are preferred.
• Estimated travel of less than 5%.
