Overview

APX is an industry leader in metal manufacturing of enclosures, custom fabrication, machining, and industrial coatings. They are looking for a welder fabricator for their established sheet metal shop.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints
  • Read and use a tape measure
  • Work independently as well as with others to assemble projects within 1/32 inch
  • Work with sheet metal and occasionally heavier metal
  • Perform MIG and/or TIG weld on steel, stainless, and aluminum sheet metal based on project requirements
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
  • Examine weld for bead size and other specifications
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
  • Grind off excess weld or spatter
  • Sand or touch up weld with sander and/or grinder
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED preferred
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, calipers, tape measures, and angle gauges
  • Ability to identify and measure material
  • Ability to produce quality products consistently
  • Willingness to learn and work to the best of his/her abilities as well as dependable work ethic
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • This is a 3rd Shift Position running Monday-Thursday 7pm-5:30am

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG and TIG work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. It lays down metal fast and is forgiving on clean material, which is why it dominates production and light fabrication work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
