Overview

The Welder Technician, Intermediate at Greenbrier is responsible for refurbishing and repairing rail car components while ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. Greenbrier is a leading designer and manufacturer of freight rail transportation equipment and services, committed to safety, quality, and employee engagement.

Responsibilities

• Establishes and maintains knowledge of The Association of American Railroads repair procedures and complies with regulations and safety policies.
• Performs refurbishing and repairs to rail car components using various welding and cutting tools.
• Conducts Dye Penetrant Non-Destructive Testing for material and weld repairs.
• Works under the direction of Supervisor and department leader, notifying them of materials and equipment needs.
• Executes special processes for repair or refurbishment based on customer work orders.
• Adjusts welder and feeder settings as required and performs minor repairs to tools and equipment.
• Maintains air-purifying respirator welding hood.
• Collaborates with Supervisor and team members, assisting in training new employees when required.

Requirements

• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detail.
• Ability to use measuring equipment such as rulers and precision measuring tools.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively within a team.
• Ability to operate machines and tools for welding, cutting, gouging, inspecting, and testing.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and work orders.
• Ability to perform complex weld repairs in Flat and Horizontal positions.
• 3+ years work experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Experience with welding processes such as burning, air arc, and grinding is preferred.

Additional Information

• Work environment includes hot and cold conditions, working around heavy equipment, and on and under railcars.
• Personal protective equipment is required, including steel toe boots, hard hats, and welding shields.
