Overview

The Boilermaker 1 position involves maintenance and installation of equipment related to towers, heat exchanges, heaters, and plant piping according to blueprint specifications, utilizing both power and hand tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design, install, and repair boilers used for generating electric power or providing heat in refineries.
  • Attach water tubes, stacks and liners, safety and check valves, and water and pressure gauges.
  • Connect fire tubes to head or water tubes to drain and headers of boilers.
  • Drill and tap holes for installation of studs.
  • Tighten bolts to assemble frames using power or hand wrenches.
  • Bolt or screw accessories such as manholes, hand holes, fans, gauges, and valves to vessels.
  • Replace defective parts using power wrenches, prying bars, or hand tools.
  • Perform general piping work such as line breaking, installing blinds, and gaskets.
  • Install equipment internals, packings, catalysts, and desiccants in vessels.
  • Inspect, clean, maintain, and repair equipment.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and policies while promoting the company’s safety culture.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a boilermaker.
  • NCCER certification is required.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction or repair of towers, heaters, exchangers, and refinery piping.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment when handling day-to-day information.
  • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work cooperatively across all levels and deliver on commitments.
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines.
  • Ability to work non-routine hours when necessary.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

  • Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Ability to operate job-related tools.
  • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds and carrying at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help.
