Overview

The Welder-Fitter position at Los Angeles County involves fabricating and welding piping systems, inspecting and repairing existing systems, and ensuring compliance with building codes. This role is part of a large organization dedicated to providing diverse public services to nearly 10 million residents.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricates and welds piping systems for Department facilities.
  • Inspects, repairs, and replaces existing piping systems and components.
  • Assists in planning and projecting timelines for new piping system installations.
  • Works with building inspectors to ensure compliance with building codes.
  • Installs and repairs building structures as needed.
  • Tracks materials, tools, equipment, and supplies used in projects.
  • Obtains quotes and places orders for necessary materials and tools.
  • Oversees rigging work for the movement and installation of equipment.
  • Updates work orders with project status.
  • Assists other trade personnel with their work.
  • Travels to Department worksites across Los Angeles County.
  • Works on call as needed.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience in electric and gas welding, including one year at the journey-level.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or alternative transportation method.
  • Certification by the Department of Building and Safety of the City of Los Angeles for structural welding.
  • Certification by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for boiler and pressure vessel welding.
  • Normal color perception.

Additional Information

  • Available to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Applicants must complete a thorough background investigation.
