Overview

Axiom Space is a human space exploration company focused on building space infrastructure and delivering technology-driven solutions. They are seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to lead complex technical projects for the first commercial space station.

Responsibilities

  • Define and manage project scope, resource allocation, budgets, and compliance to product requirement specifications.
  • Mature and deliver product designs and project deliverables in alignment with product lifecycle milestones.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with contractual agreements for complex structural subsystems.
  • Present technical compliance, status updates, and milestone progress to executive leadership and external clients.
  • Lead product team through all phases of a project, including requirements development, design, prototyping, and production.
  • Break down complex technical objectives into clear tasks and assign them across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Prepare and execute trade studies to facilitate major project decision points and review engineering drawings and reports.
  • Plan and lead build flows, test flows, integration efforts, and project risk mitigation activities.
  • Investigate root causes, resolve engineering issues, and manage discrepancies.
  • Ensure products meet NASA standards, FAA regulations, and quality safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years’ experience leading Engineering projects.
  • Deep technical understanding in structural integrity verification and mechanical system integration.
  • Spaceflight hardware design background preferred.
  • Experience working with NASA requirements and spaceflight hardware development preferred.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office software.
  • Experience with SOLIDWORKS 3D modeling software or similar CAD tool.
  • Experience with PDM software preferred.
  • Experience with project management software.
  • Experience with Atlassian suite preferred.
  • Demonstrated organization skills to meet tight deadlines.

Additional Information

  • Position is onsite at the Space Systems Development Facility (SSDF).
  • May require access to export controlled technical data subject to NASA regulations.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed.
