Overview

Yank Technologies, Inc. is a wireless power startup in Brooklyn, New York, developing long-range, high power wireless charging technology. The Mechanical Design Engineer will tackle challenging mechanical design problems across product lines, from novel mechanisms to hardware for demanding environments.

Responsibilities

  • Solve complex mechanical design challenges, developing concepts and trade studies and carrying designs through detailed design.
  • Design parts, mechanisms, and assemblies in SolidWorks, including precision, adjustable, and multi-part assemblies.
  • Select materials, fasteners, and manufacturing processes appropriate to each application.
  • Create engineering drawings and maintain BOMs and CAD data for in-house fabrication and outside vendors.
  • Apply design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA) principles and work with vendors on machined, printed, and fabricated parts.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D printing, including printer operation, material selection, and design for additive manufacturing.
  • Assemble, test, and troubleshoot hardware in the lab, and refine designs based on results.
  • Develop practical thermal solutions, such as heat sinks, thermoelectric coolers, and improved conduction paths, using hand calculations and quick simulations to guide design decisions.
  • Participate in design reviews and produce clear documentation, test reports, and assembly procedures.
  • Collaborate with electrical, systems, and manufacturing teams on system-level integration and the transition from prototype to production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of full-time experience in mechanical design and hardware development.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve challenging mechanical design problems creatively and practically.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, including part and assembly modeling and drawings.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical, structural, and thermal design fundamentals.
  • Experience taking designs from concept through prototype and test.
  • Experience with 3D printing and design for additive manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience assembling, testing, and debugging hardware.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • US Citizen or US Permanent Resident.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and make effective and timely decisions.
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies and apply sound engineering to unfamiliar problems.
