Overview

The Welder Foreman is responsible for ensuring the shop runs smoothly on a daily basis by providing the team with the necessary resources for success. This role emphasizes safety, professionalism, and quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Works with a commitment to safety

  • Comes to work on time every day with appropriate attire and tools
  • Keeps work area clean
  • Installs quality work in a neat and workmanship like manner
  • Treats tools with respect
  • Works and climbs on ladders, lifts, and elevated platforms
  • Identifies electrical parts and components
  • Performs strenuous physical work including digging, kneeling, shoveling, lifting, pulling, pushing, and climbing
  • Keeps up with changing technology
  • Wears tools at all required times
  • Works in all weather conditions
  • Responsible for assigning projects to the team
  • Maintains manpower needs
  • Monitors and ensures deadlines are met
  • Responsible for QA/QC
  • Ensures safety policies are followed
  • Conducts New Hire Orientation
  • Facilitates any necessary training for the team
  • Ensures the shop is cleaned every day
  • Puts together estimates on fabrication
  • Handles material take off and ordering
  • Drives, sits, climbs, lifts, carries, stands, stoops, walks, kneels, pushes, and pulls as required

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience in general welding codes preferred
  • Ability to mentor welders to pass certification tests
  • Knowledge of the construction process from scheduling to manpower
  • Understanding of welding codes – AWS, ASME, and QA/QC procedures
  • Skill in conceptual estimating and managing complex projects
  • Ability to work with little supervision and act as a self-starter
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in using communication software and Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to identify and manage risk and solve problems
  • Innovative thinking to help advance the shop
