Overview

LaborWorx is hiring experienced HVAC Mechanical Pipefitters for commercial and federal mechanical projects in Washington, DC and Quantico, VA. These positions involve installing, modifying, and removing commercial HVAC mechanical systems for a national energy infrastructure contractor.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricating, assembling, and installing hydronic, chilled water, and heating water piping systems.
  • Installing and connecting piping to chillers, boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, air-handling equipment, and other mechanical systems.
  • Measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, fitting, and assembling various types of pipe.
  • Working with steel, copper, and grooved piping systems.
  • Reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, blueprints, isometrics, specifications, and layouts.
  • Installing pipe supports, hangers, valves, fittings, and related components.
  • Rigging, positioning, and setting mechanical equipment and piping components.
  • Performing demolition and removal of existing HVAC piping, equipment, and mechanical systems.
  • Performing pressure testing and assisting with system flushing, startup, and commissioning activities.
  • Identifying potential installation issues and communicating them to supervisors or project management.
  • Maintaining proper alignment, slope, and support of piping systems.
  • Working safely around operating equipment, construction activities, lifts, scaffolding, and other trades.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Following all company, contractor, client, OSHA, and job-site safety requirements.
  • Working cooperatively with other pipefitters, welders, electricians, HVAC technicians, and construction trades.
  • Performing other pipefitting and mechanical construction duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional pipefitting experience, preferably with commercial HVAC or mechanical construction experience.
  • Strong understanding of commercial HVAC piping systems.
  • Experience working with steel, copper, and grooved piping.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints, mechanical drawings, isometric drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to accurately measure, cut, thread, groove, fit, and install pipe.
  • Experience with mechanical equipment installation and piping connections.
  • Own standard hand tools required for the pipefitting trade.
  • OSHA 10 certification required; OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined/tight spaces, and in varying outdoor conditions.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and following job-site procedures.

Additional Information

  • Contract position with potential opportunity to convert to full-time.
  • Duration approximately 6–18 months, depending on project requirements.
  • Schedule is 4x10s — four 10-hour shifts per week.
  • Pay is Davis-Bacon prevailing wage, with $76.06/hour in Quantico and $73.59/hour in DC Area.
  • Candidates must complete an extensive onboarding and clearance process.
