Overview

At Stoughton Trailers, an industry leader with deep Wisconsin roots, we pride ourselves on quality, safety, and operational excellence. As a GMAW (MIG) Fabrication Welder, you’ll turn raw steel into reliable trailers that keep freight moving—safely, precisely, and on time.

Responsibilities

  • Set up various parts and assemblies for welding on carbon and stainless steels of multiple gauges.
  • Align components using blocking, braces, jigs, wedges, drift pins, turnbuckles, and pry bars.
  • Perform GMAW welds in flat, horizontal, vertical down, and overhead positions.
  • Prepare and finish workpieces by grinding or chipping rough edges, surplus weld, or scale.
  • Clamp, position, and bolt together straps or parts to spec.
  • Operate overhead cranes, hoists, and other lifting devices safely.
  • Run both manual and robotic welding equipment; verify measurements and complete quality records.
  • Contribute to a safe, efficient, highly productive environment; maintain reliable, on-time attendance.
  • Work mandatory overtime as required; perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, based on education and work experience.
  • Welder certification preferred.
  • Read blueprints and process sheets; accurately use gauges and tape measures.
  • Apply basic shop math (fractions, measurements).
  • Strong grasp of welding practices and defect identification/repair.
  • Set up and operate weld machines, oxy-acetylene torches, plasma equipment, and robotic welders.
  • Successfully pass written and hands-on weld tests.
  • Successfully pass pulmonary function tests.

  • Schedule Options: Monday–Thursday: 5:30 AM–4:00 PM, Monday–Thursday: 4:30 PM–3:00 AM, Friday–Sunday: 5:00 AM–5:00 PM.
  • Shifts: 1st, 2nd, & Weekend.
  • Overtime: Required as business needs.
