Overview

This position is for a Welder responsible for the fabrication, modification, repair, assembly, and installation of various types of metal and alloy parts, equipment, systems, and structures. The role involves working with equipment such as dredges, towboats, barges, and cranes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform planning, layout, and fitting work for construction, maintenance, and repair of equipment and structures.
  • Conduct sheet metal work with 30 to 16 gauge metals including galvanized iron, stainless steel, tin, copper, lead, zinc, and aluminum.
  • Determine appropriate welding techniques and select proper materials like welding electrodes or rods.
  • Construct elbows of any degree and size up to 48 inches in diameter, along with flumes, conduits, and irregular shapes.
  • Ensure material is ordered and delivered to work sites to prevent delays.
  • Perform pressure work related to steam lines and boilers subject to Coast Guard inspection and approval.
  • Utilize templates, heavy shop machines, and various tools such as sledge hammers, chisels, and cutting torches.
