Overview

D. G. Granade, Inc. is seeking two experienced steel fabricators/welders for a four-week shop fabrication assignment focused on the layout, fabrication, and welding of steel handrails and guardrails for a construction project.

Responsibilities

  • Read and work from construction drawings, details, and dimensions
  • Lay out steel handrail and guardrail assemblies
  • Measure, cut, fit, and prepare steel components
  • Fabricate complete rail assemblies accurately to plan dimensions
  • MIG and/or stick weld steel components as required
  • Grind and finish welds where required for a clean finished product
  • Maintain proper dimensions, alignment, and consistency between assemblies
  • Check completed work for fit and accuracy
  • Safely operate saws, grinders, welders, and other metal fabrication equipment
  • Maintain an organized and productive shop work area

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in steel fabrication and welding
  • Ability to read construction and fabrication drawings
  • Experience in steel layout and fabrication
  • Accurate measuring and cutting skills
  • Ability to fit components prior to welding
  • Experience producing clean, consistent welds
  • Ability to fabricate repetitive assemblies while maintaining dimensional accuracy
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision
  • Current welding certification applicable to the work being performed (for at least one position)
  • Previous experience fabricating handrails, guardrails, stairs, structural steel, or miscellaneous metals is preferred

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG and Stick work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. It lays down metal fast and is forgiving on clean material, which is why it dominates production and light fabrication work. Stick (SMAW) burns a flux-coated consumable rod and needs no shielding gas, so it works in wind, rain, and on dirty or rusted steel. That tolerance for bad conditions keeps it the default for field, structural, and repair work.
