Overview

Austin Industrial is a leading provider of maintenance, construction, and soft craft services to industrial companies across the U.S. They are seeking a Structural Welder who can join steel components or metal plates using various welding techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Use Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes.
  • Unite pipes from torch to tanks of oxygen and fuel gas and turn valves to release mixture.
  • Reach expected temperature, size, and color of flame by burning torch and adjusting flow of gas and air.
  • Preheat work pieces for the preparation of welding or curving, using torch.
  • Fill holes or correct mistakes in lead pieces and make bulges thin and curves in metal work pieces.
  • Manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal.
  • Clean or degrease weld joint or workplace using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath.
  • Remove excess weld, defective weld material, slag and spatter using carbon arc gouge, hand scrapper, grinder or power chipper.
  • Climb up ladders or work on scaffolds to take apart textures.
  • Choose place of weld based on type, thickness, area, and expected temperature of metal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • No minimum education requirements.
  • 2-4 years of Journeyman level experience.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as sitting, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work at elevations, on uneven surfaces, or in confined spaces.
  • Sufficient visual, hearing, communication, and motor skills to safely perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow safety procedures, work instructions, and company policies.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, solve problems, maintain attention to detail, effectively manage stress, and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Work may be performed in industrial and construction environments with exposure to weather conditions, temperature extremes, noise, dust, fumes, moving equipment, vibration, and other site-specific hazards.
  • Employees must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and meet all customer, site, regulatory, medical, and fitness-for-duty requirements.
