Overview

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy by designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. They are seeking a Production Welder responsible for in-house welding work for high-field superconducting magnets.

Responsibilities

  • Weld and inspect large metallic structures and tooling within specified timelines and budgets
  • Set up welding processes as per specifications, including determining the correct equipment and methods
  • Read and analyze drawings and take detailed measurements to plan the project layout
  • Cut and join material
  • Perform hand welding or semi-automated welding, utilizing advanced forms when needed
  • Weld components in vertical, flat, and overhead positions
  • Provide manufacturability feedback to design engineers for weld geometries and material selection
  • Perform welding equipment qualification trials
  • Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing discrepancies with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Follow safety procedures at all times

Requirements

  • Documented Training or Certification in Blueprint Reading and Fabrication, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Advanced Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
  • 5+ years' experience as a welder on large structural systems and tooling
  • Experience with large metallic structures and manufacturing processes related to welding
  • Experience in producing welds to pass industry standard requirements
  • Experience welding stainless steel
  • Experience using GTAW process to weld copper

  • Differential pay for shifts: 10% for weekday second shift, 15% for weekday third shift, 15% for weekend first shift, and 30% for weekend second shift
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Willingness to travel occasionally or do required nights/weekends/on-call

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG, TIG, and Stick work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle.
