Overview

Sedgman USA is seeking a Structural Designer for their Phoenix, Arizona office. The role involves creating 2D and 3D models of steel and concrete structures for mining projects, translating designs from engineers into technical plans while ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate detailed structural drawings and 3D models using Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, or Tekla Structures.
  • Develop detailed designs for structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, and foundations for mining infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with mechanical and electrical teams to resolve conflicts and perform clash detection.
  • Ensure designs comply with mining safety codes, regional building codes, and QA/QC requirements.
  • Review vendor equipment drawings and conduct field visits to verify measurements and assess existing structures.
  • Prepare bills of materials, list structural components, and compute engineering data for fabrication.
  • Focus on meeting expectations for schedule, quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Participate in the review of designs and advise on technical drafting difficulties.
  • Comply with the Change Management process for engineering design.
  • Upkeep of drawing list and percentage complete status.
  • Understand Sedgman standard specifications and typical drawings.

Requirements

  • Associate Diploma in CAD or any other formal training certificates.
  • 5 – 7 years’ experience in structural drafting, specifically in the mining industry or engineering consulting.
  • Ability to convert engineering concepts into 3D designs.
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD 3D; experience with Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, or Tekla Structures is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of steel connection detailing, concrete foundations, and structural steel standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional precision in checking drawings.
  • Skills in MS Office Suite.
