Overview

Shield AI is a venture-backed defense-tech company focused on protecting service members and civilians with intelligent systems. The Staff Engineer, Landing Gear Systems role involves taking technical ownership of landing gear architecture and design within a special access program.

Responsibilities

  • Lead landing gear architecture definition and trade studies.
  • Own the full CAD design lifecycle from initial concept through drawing release.
  • Perform first-principles classical stress and fatigue hand calculations.
  • Size and select wheels, tires, brakes, shock absorption systems, and actuators.
  • Author technical specifications and statements of work for landing gear components.
  • Define verification test plans and design mechanical test fixtures.
  • Support prototype assembly, ground taxi testing, and flight test operations.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen with an active Secret or higher clearance.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience for L4 or 12 years for L5 in aerospace mechanism design.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Deep mastery of classical solid mechanics, kinematics, dynamics, and materials selection.
  • Demonstrated capability in performing closed-form hand calculations and FEA analysis.
  • Extensive experience in 3D CAD modeling and drawing release, preferably Siemens NX.
  • Proven track record sourcing aerospace hardware and supporting physical builds.
