Job Description

Overview

Awnings Houston, based in Pasadena, TX, has been building custom awnings and shade structures since 1990. They are seeking an experienced lead fabricator and welder to oversee metal fabrication in their factory, focusing on building and installing custom awnings and canopies.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out, cut, fit, and weld aluminum and steel frames.
  • Work with thin-wall tubing, including approximately .062-inch aluminum.
  • Read drawings, verify measurements, and resolve fabrication questions before cutting.
  • Fit angles, miters, and frame connections accurately.
  • Inspect finished work for dimensions, alignment, and weld quality.
  • Help with installations, material handling, and loading finished frames.
  • Keep the shop, tools, and materials organized.
  • Install framework to homes and businesses along with stretch sewn cover and apply custom graphics.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of welding and fabrication experience in both aluminum and steel.
  • Ability to weld everything from thin-wall tubing to 1/4" plate.
  • Ability to build skeleton frames out of 1" square tubing.
  • Ability to solve complex junctions/compound miters at slope.
  • Experience rolling or bending tubes (1" square) for arched structures.
  • Strong blueprint reading and layout skills.
  • Experience leading, training, or directing others in a shop setting.
  • Forklift experience.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to solve problems without waiting to be told.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
