Overview

Bender CCP is seeking a Shafting Technician for their Vernon, CA location to support specialized shaft repair and restoration projects. This role involves hands-on work with marine propulsion shafting and related components, focusing on precision fitting and repair processes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the repair, installation, and removal of shaft sleeves and related propulsion shafting components.
  • Prepare, fit, align, and secure components for repair and assembly.
  • Operate hand tools, grinders, portable milling equipment, and other tools used in shafting repair.
  • Prepare shaft surfaces and assist with fiberglass/GRP wrapping, fairing, and other restoration processes.
  • Perform precision fitting, finishing, measurements, and dimensional checks using micrometers, calipers, indicators, and other measuring tools.
  • Inspect components for defects, surface conditions, fit, alignment, and dimensional accuracy.
  • Assist with shaft alignment, stress relief, and inspection activities as required.
  • Safely handle large components using appropriate lifting and material-handling equipment.
  • Work with machining, engineering, and quality teams to complete repairs to technical specifications and customer requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn specialized repair processes.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.
  • Ability to follow technical instructions, procedures, and engineering drawings.
  • Comfort working with hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.
  • Ability to work in an industrial shop environment and handle the physical demands of the role safely.
  • Dependable attendance and willingness to work overtime or weekends as needed.
  • Experience with marine or shipyard repair, shaft sleeves, portable machining, fiberglass or composite wrapping, rotating equipment, precision fitting, or rigging is a plus.

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:30 PM–11:00 PM, with overtime and weekends as needed.
