Overview

The WELDER EXPERIENCED position at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding involves performing structural and pipe welds in all phases of ship construction, utilizing various welding processes. The company is the largest industrial employer in Virginia and specializes in building U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural and/or pipe welds using various welding processes.
  • Use a wide range of welding filler metals.
  • Complete tack, fillet, and full penetration welding on steel foundations and structural joints.
  • Satisfy all nondestructive tests requirements.
  • Receive additional training including certified visual inspection and troubleshooting minor welding equipment problems.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
  • A minimum of 3 years welding experience.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at extreme heights.
  • Ability to work in small, tight, or confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects weighing 40 lbs. or more.
  • Ability to work in areas with radiation.
  • Must take and pass a respirator fit test.
  • Must take and pass a Physical Agility Test.
