Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Structural Engineer (MEP) to join our Design & Drafting team. This role focuses on developing 3D models, equipment layouts, structural designs, and production-ready drawings for packaged equipment and integrated industrial systems.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), process flow diagrams (PFDs), site layouts, equipment layouts, piping plans, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), and general arrangement (GA) drawings.
  • Develop and maintain detailed 3D models and layouts for packaged equipment systems using Revit and SolidWorks.
  • Design and model structural frames, equipment skids, weldments, piping routes, and associated mechanical assemblies.
  • Create assemblies, mating surfaces, extrusions, exploded views, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Produce GA drawings, sectional views, dimensions, callouts, and BOMs for purchasing, fabrication, and production teams.
  • Review project scopes, customer specifications, and engineering requirements to ensure designs align with the intended functionality and project deliverables.
  • Coordinate with project engineers, fellow designers, and mechanical, electrical, structural, and controls teams to ensure proper integration of equipment and subsystems.
  • Account for equipment accessibility, maintenance requirements, operational clearances, piping interfaces, and manufacturing constraints during the design process.
  • Maintain drawing schedules, ensure accuracy and consistency of deliverables, and meet project deadlines.
  • Participate in model reviews and incorporate feedback from senior designers and engineers.
  • Follow established design procedures, drafting standards, and applicable industry codes and regulations.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience designing and modeling in Revit, preferably involving pipe routing, equipment skids, structural weldments, or industrial layouts.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, including 3D modeling, assemblies, weldments, and production drawing creation.
  • Experience with packaged equipment, skid-mounted systems, plant layouts, or industrial equipment design.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, PFDs, specifications, and equipment layouts.
  • Experience preparing GA drawings, section views, dimensions, callouts, and bills of materials.
  • Working knowledge of structural, mechanical, electrical, and controls interfaces within integrated equipment systems.
  • Familiarity with equipment maintenance, operating clearances, fabrication requirements, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Awareness of applicable industry codes and standards, including NEC, IEC, ASME, AISC, AWS, UMC, OSHA, and relevant building codes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Google Workspace.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, organizational abilities, and effective communication.
  • Ability to manage design tasks independently while collaborating with senior designers, engineers, and cross-functional teams.

Certifications this posting mentions

  • ASME Section IX — the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code qualification. It covers welding on pressure-retaining equipment — boilers, vessels, and process piping — where a failed weld is a safety incident rather than a rework ticket.
