Overview

The Heat-Treating Technician – Electrical Resistance is responsible for executing thermal operations such as post weld heat treatment using electrical resistance methods.

Responsibilities

  • Perform setup, operation, and breakdown of electrical resistance heating systems.
  • Execute post weld heat treatment and preheat activities according to job procedures and specifications.
  • Lay out and install heat treating blankets, insulation, and thermocouples.
  • Program, monitor, and record temperature cycles using temperature control units.
  • Interpret technical documents such as weld procedures and heat treat drawings.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and temperature control issues during operations.
  • Provide on-site coordination with welders, inspectors, and client representatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of heat cycles and equipment logs for QA/QC.
  • Follow all safety procedures involving electrical equipment and elevated temperatures.
  • Train or mentor assistants and junior technicians as assigned.
  • Perform general labor duties related to rigging and equipment setup.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening background check.
  • Must be able to obtain TWIC, DISA, and/or other site access credentials.
  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience performing electrical resistance heat treating in industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of ceramic heating pads, controller programming, and thermocouple application.
  • Familiarity with weld joint preparation and applicable codes.
  • Ability to read P&IDs, isometric drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Willingness to travel and work in various environments.
  • Willingness and ability to work extended shifts and weekends.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
