Overview
At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The Aerospace TIG Welder Sr. will be responsible for Inconel-based TIG welding on fuel pumps, high pressure locks, and other large-scale castings for Blue Origin's BE-4 engines.
Responsibilities
- TIG welding aerospace stainless steel and Inconel hardware, using manual equipment.
- Weld preparation including cutting, blending, chamfering and cleaning parts.
- Support/prepare parts for post-weld inspection processes such as dye penetrant, X-ray and chemical treatments.
- Design support and fabrication of tooling for welding and assembly.
- Communicate with engineers on design concepts, offering suggestions for improvements to the design.
- Perform Strip Welding and Installation on Flight Hardware.
- Review, edit and follow Work Instructions for welding and assembly work.
- Safely work within an industrial environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 10+ years' experience with DC- and AC-TIG welding of metals including stainless steels, aluminum, Inconel alloys.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and the ability to document and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to use precision hand tools, standard mechanical tools and fabrication shop equipment.
- Familiar with use of personal computers.
- Knowledge of AWS D17.1 aerospace welding specs (preferred).
- Familiarity with tube fabrication and pressurized system safety (preferred).
- Knowledgeable in the use of 3-D CAD tools, preferably CREO, and ability to read and interpret GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard (preferred).
- Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight critical hardware (preferred).
- Machining experience (preferred).
- Crane Operator/Lift Coordinator Experience (preferred).
