Overview
The Shop Combo Welder position offers a competitive hourly wage of up to $37.00 based on weld qualifications. The role requires proficiency in multi-process pipe welding and experience in a Tier 1 Pipe Fabrication Shop.
Responsibilities
- Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
- Obtains specified electrode and inserts it into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
- Connects cables from welding unit to obtain specified amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse.
- Starts power supply to produce electric current.
- Strikes arc to generate heat and deposit metal from electrode to work piece.
- Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece using appropriate tools.
- Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
- Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
- Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter using hand scraper or power chipper.
- Preheats work piece using hand torch or heating furnace.
- Positions and clamps work pieces together or assembles them in jig or fixture.
- Tacks assemblies together.
- Cuts metal plates or structural shapes.
- May be designated according to type of equipment used as various types of welders.
- Passes employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards.
- Works in accordance with safe job practices and complies with company safety rules.
- Uses required personal protective equipment.
- Reports unsafe conditions or practices.
- Participates in safety meetings and job safety analyses.
Requirements
- Must successfully pass the on-site Weld Test.
- Experience in a Tier 1 Pipe Fabrication Shop is required.
- Capable of certifying on multi-process pipe welding.
- Proficiency in general welding processes.
