Overview
Wood is recruiting for a Structural Engineer to join its Operations Americas business in Pasadena, Texas. The role involves setting the direction for civil and structural reliability programs and managing capital projects while providing expert guidance on civil and structural concerns.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and improve civil and infrastructure life cycle management and capital replacement strategies.
- Establish asset condition assessment programs to prioritize maintenance and repair activities.
- Define long-term capital needs and life cycle cost optimization strategies for civil and structural assets.
- Provide technical leadership in identifying and developing solutions for 'bad actor' assets.
- Collaborate with Reliability and Maintenance teams to integrate civil assets into site health monitoring programs.
- Serve as Project Engineer for civil/structural projects from scope development to closeout.
- Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and execution strategies.
- Lead design-based development and technical reviews to ensure constructability and maintainability.
- Coordinate with internal and external teams to ensure safe and high-quality execution.
- Provide field support during construction, including issue resolution and QA/QC oversight.
- Serve as the global technical authority for civil and structural engineering standards.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
- Support site audits and inspections related to civil and structural assets.
- Participate in Process Hazard Analyses and incident investigations involving civil or structural risks.
- Embed safety into all phases of engineering and construction execution.
- Identify and mitigate civil and structural risks impacting safety and performance.
- Partner with Operations and Maintenance to align asset strategies with production risks.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineers and inspectors.
- Act as a key technical advisor on infrastructure risk and capital planning.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 20+ years of progressive experience in industrial manufacturing or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong background in structural steel, concrete, foundations, and industrial infrastructure systems.
- Experience developing life cycle management strategies for civil assets.
- Knowledge of inspection methodologies and repair techniques for aging infrastructure.
- Familiarity with engineering contractors and construction practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communicator able to translate technical issues into business recommendations.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- High standards for safety, quality, and technical rigor.
