Overview

This entry-level Structural Engineer position at Sargent & Lundy offers the opportunity to apply knowledge in materials, structural analysis, and design while working on power transmission modifications and upgrades. The role involves collaboration within an engineering team to solve structural engineering issues and interface directly with clients.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a variety of structural engineering issues.
  • Perform structural analysis and detailed design of steel structures, connections, concrete members, platforms, and foundations.
  • Develop integrated structural designs and perform supporting calculations.
  • Communicate technical information directly with clients.
  • Prepare technical specifications for structural materials.
  • Review work completed by others, including calculations and drawing preparation.
  • Engage in peer-learning and knowledge sharing with experienced engineers.
  • Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and field verification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a strong academic background in materials behavior, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design.
  • Effective communication skills with clients at an appropriate technical level.
  • Ability to perform occasional walk-downs and attend client site scoping meetings.
  • Experience in writing and providing support documentation for structural engineering calculations.
  • Ability to complete assignments within budget and schedule with high accuracy.
  • Knowledgeable in practical applications of structural engineering including analysis for supports, loads, and design integrity.
  • Experience with design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans and models.
  • Proficiency in MathCad, STAAD PRO, RISA 3D, and RISA Floor.
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
