Overview

AAR Corp. is a global aerospace and defense aftermarket solutions company that employs over 6,000 people across more than 60 sites in over 20 countries. The TIG Welder position involves performing Gas tungsten arc welding on aircraft parts, fabricating or repairing parts and assemblies to required tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Determine and install applicable welding materials based on parent metal properties.
• Strike arc to melt line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
• Perform minor repair operations including helicoil installation and repairs of broken or cracked parts.
• Prepare broken parts for welding by prepping surfaces per standard practices.
• Preheat work piece with hand torch or heating furnace.
• Position and clamp work piece together to assemble them in jig or fixture.
• Tack assemblies together.
• Apply filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
• Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
• Examine weld for bead size and other specifications.
• Continuously pursue lean initiatives toward process improvements.
• Maintain minimum 80% billable efficiency.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Basics.
• Knowledge of ASW D17.1.
• Skill to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints.
• Ability to read standard gauges and other measuring devices.
• Skill to operate basic machining equipment.
• Ability to learn industry-related software.
• Minimum certification in Material Groups IIa (stainless steel), IV (aluminum), V (magnesium), 4130 (Steel) and Inconel.
• Obtain respiratory certification and wear a face respirator.
• Successfully pass annual regulatory vision requirements.
• Must successfully complete Chromium Physical.
