Overview
The Welder II position at BAE Systems involves laying out, fitting up, tacking, and welding various metals using a range of welding processes. This role requires working from engineering drawings and operating welding and cutting equipment, while ensuring high-quality workmanship in a team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
- Lays out, performs fit-up, tacks, and welds parts to produce a weldment or sub-weldment.
- Joins various metals using a full range of welding processes in different weld positions.
- Performs rework on product involving repair of defective welds and machined features.
- Operates manual and semi-automatic welding and plasma cutting equipment.
- Uses fixtures to layout, locate and position parts and features to be welded and reworked.
- Inspects work using precision measuring instruments.
- Completes required shop floor paperwork and documentation.
Requirements
- A minimum of one year experience with a technical background.
- Must pass GMAW overhead (4G) weld certification test in aluminum OR steel.
- Must have ability to use band saw to fabricate simple parts.
- Must have ability to recognize out-of-specification conditions and defects in weld workmanship.
- Must have ability to read and interpret drawings with weld symbols and machined features.
- Must be capable of wearing respiratory protective equipment.
