Overview

As a Structural Estimator at GWICC, you will produce accurate, detail-oriented estimates for small and large complex projects through collaboration with various disciplines. This role involves preparing estimates that can be accurately interpreted and executed by the Pre-Construction team.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze blueprints, project specifications, and other documentation to prepare and estimate projects.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate estimates on new projects and estimate prices for change orders on existing contracts.
  • Prepare take off of steel materials and estimate all necessary shop labor and field erection.
  • Collaborate with project team members on building to specifications in fabrication and erection.
  • Communicate potential risks and conditions that may impact project costs to management.
  • Read and interpret job bid instructions and prepare a thorough price estimate.
  • Discuss alternative recommendations on projects as required by management.
  • Work with Sales and Pre-construction Teams to understand project size, scope, and timelines.
  • Adhere to GWICC estimating guidelines and procedures.
  • Type up all estimates in the in-house computer program and enter takeoffs and drawing numbers.
  • Interact with other key team members in a professional manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with structural drawing or drafting coursework.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience estimating structural and miscellaneous steel construction projects.
  • Proven experience as a construction or steel estimator.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction terminology and estimating software packages.
  • Basic understanding of job cost accounting and project management concepts.
  • Excellent attention to detail and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.

Additional Information

  • Work is generally performed in a climate-controlled office area.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time throughout an 8-10 hour day.
  • Working long days, evenings, and weekends may be required as needed.
