Overview

The CTE Teacher for Automotive/Welding at Homewood-Flossmoor High Community High School is responsible for delivering a comprehensive curriculum that prepares high school students for careers in the automotive and welding industries. This role involves both theoretical instruction and hands-on experiences, ensuring students gain proficiency in various technical skills while maintaining a safe learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver a rigorous, industry-aligned curriculum for automotive and welding.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned to NATEF/ASE Education Foundation standards.
  • Integrate current diagnostic technology into daily instruction.
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and skill levels.
  • Establish and enforce rigorous shop safety standards in compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Manage shop equipment, tools, and inventory within the departmental budget.
  • Assess student learning through various methods and prepare students for industry certifications.
  • Advise students on post-secondary pathways including apprenticeships and technical colleges.
  • Develop and sustain partnerships with local industry employers for student internships and job placements.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and maintain current industry certifications.

Requirements

  • Valid Professional Educator License with an endorsement in Technology Education or Career and Technical Education.
  • Endorsements in Automotive Mechanics/Technician and Welding.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional automotive service, repair, or welding experience.
  • ASE certification in one or more automotive service areas or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • AWS Certified Welder or equivalent industry qualification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least three welding processes.
  • Knowledge of OSHA shop safety standards and hazardous materials handling regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret welding blueprints and symbols.
