Overview

At NJ TRANSIT, you will join us in transforming the third-largest transportation agency in North America, committed to delivering safe, reliable service. We are looking to hire talented individuals with a love of learning for the Maintenance Team Member position, which requires a Black Seal License.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, service and repair boilers, compressors, circulating pumps.
  • Inspect, service and repair air conditioning units, heating units, and related controls.
  • Inspect and service electric motors, controls, relays, and switches.
  • Perform general maintenance including plumbing, masonry, carpentry, and repairs of all Fixed Facilities equipment.
  • Work from a 40 foot ladder, scaffolding, or cherry picker for general maintenance.
  • Install 110, 220 and 440 volt electrical service.
  • Operate heavy duty vehicles with snowplows, spreaders, and basic construction equipment.
  • Lead maintenance work with lower level maintenance team members.
  • Assume responsibilities of working Foreman when on leave.
  • List and estimate materials needed for assigned work.
  • Perform welding and brazing.
  • Be available for emergencies as they arise.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, Trade, Technical School or equivalent.
  • Possess valid NJ Driver’s License.
  • 3 - 5 years of working knowledge in building maintenance or construction.
  • Must be able to read industrial wiring diagrams and blueprints.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair electrical problems and use test equipment.
  • Must be capable of performing plumbing, masonry, carpentry, welding, roofing, and electrical work.
  • Must be able to understand directives and perform duties without direct supervision.
  • Must be familiar with building codes, construction codes, and electrical codes.
  • Must have a Black Seal License at the time of hire or ability to obtain it within 120 days of hire.
  • Must have knowledge of steam and hot water industrial boiler systems.
