Overview

The Field Mechanic position at Wanzek Construction involves leading equipment operations and maintenance at job sites, requiring domestic travel. The role includes working under project supervision and collaborating with the Shop Manager for planning and scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Manage fleet maintenance.
  • Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance on all equipment.
  • Travel to jobsites for repairs and inspections.
  • Conduct onsite field repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Update equipment locator list and inventory.
  • Develop and maintain an equipment maintenance tracking database.
  • Maintain proper record keeping.
  • Operate equipment to diagnose problems.
  • Ensure all equipment has an equipment ID.
  • Verify USDOT annual inspections for trucks.
  • Ensure equipment safety compliance.
  • Show expertise in basic and complex machines.
  • Review maintenance records with operators and superintendents.
  • Perform work as outlined on repair orders.
  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs.
  • Communicate effectively to obtain needed parts.
  • Examine vehicles for safety or service work.
  • Document all work performed.
  • Road test vehicles when required.
  • Identify machinery defects and complete repairs.
  • Keep shop area neat and clean.
  • Maintain accountability for shop tools and manuals.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Operate all tools and equipment safely.
  • Report safety issues immediately.

Requirements

  • One-year certificate from college or technical school in Diesel or Automotive Technology.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience.
  • One or more certifications in Electrical diagnostics, A/C system diagnostics, Welding, or OEM certification.
  • Ability to diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate the work of a 3rd party mechanic.
  • Ability to track and maintain records of completed work.
  • Qualified to drive a 1-ton rig on site and between projects.
  • High level of efficiency, aiming for 80% or higher.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to go above and beyond.
