Overview

The Shop Pipe Welder at RK Industries is a skilled member of the fabrication team responsible for producing high-quality welds and assemblies. This role requires technical expertise and collaboration with other team members to ensure projects meet industry standards and are delivered on time.

Responsibilities

  • Operate trade specific machinery and tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.
  • Identify product defects and communicate them to the project foreman.
  • Follow P&IDs for assembly tracks on projects.
  • Create specific weldment set-ups and fixturing.
  • Work with overhead cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts.
  • Train and improve the skills of other fabricators and welders.
  • Maintain weld machines using preventative maintenance methods.
  • Evaluate weld machine performance to improve cycle times.
  • Assist shop foreman with production tracking.
  • Communicate order status to the foreman or shop superintendent.
  • Prioritize work flow through effective communication.
  • Perform prioritized work flow assignments as directed.
  • Maintain welder certification per specifications.
  • Perform X-Ray Quality Welds on various piping and vessels.
  • Fit up X-ray quality weld joints using shop blueprints.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience, with a minimum of 3 years in welding preferred.
  • Familiarity with welding on a rotator.
  • Strong requirement of TIG welding experience; familiarity with MIG and ARC preferred.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy and welding techniques.
  • Knowledge of pipe trade tools.
  • Must pass a 6G FCAW weld test prior to hire.
  • Must pass a 6G GMAW weld test within one week of hire.
  • Must provide a set of hand tools within 60 days of hire.
  • Must meet production goals within 90 days of hire.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Requires judgment or initiative in resolving issues.

What you'll be running
