Overview

The City of Dallas offers a career opportunity for a Senior Industrial Mechanic who will provide senior level mechanical experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of various industrial, mechanical, and manufacturing equipment. This role is integral to the operation of water utilities and emphasizes service, innovation, and community.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses and determines equipment failures; ensures professional repairs are completed.
• Inspects and tests completed work to ensure repairs meet standards; provides direction for industrial equipment.
• Researches and orders parts for repairs, maintains records of purchases and installations, and keeps inventory.
• Demonstrates proper work methods and safety procedures to other mechanics and helpers.
• Inspects and executes repair, replacement, fabrication, modification, and installation of various plant equipment.
• Performs major and minor repairs on machinery and mechanical equipment in compliance with manuals.
• Changes belts, oil, filters, greases bearings, and troubleshoots mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Serves as lead worker over lower-level mechanics.
• Performs any other work as needed or assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• Five years of experience in mechanical maintenance and repair of industrial equipment.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record.
• Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) required for Distribution positions.
• Minimum of TCEQ Water (D) / Wastewater (D or level I) License required.
• Vocational degree in industrial mechanics or related fields can substitute for two years of experience.
• Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems and principles of maintenance and repair.
• Skill in using appropriate hand tools and repair techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret manufacturer’s manuals.
• Ability to analyze and diagnose problems.
• Ability to operate computer diagnostic equipment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Additional Information

• Subject to 24/7 call-out and stand-by rotation.
• Subject to working in confined spaces.
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs, climb, and be available at various shifts.
• Must be able to perform work outdoors, often in inclement weather.
