Overview

The Fitter/Welder position at Schuff Steel involves expertise in steel and bridge fabrication to assemble and fit various structural materials for complex projects in commercial building, bridge, and industrial sectors. The role requires proficiency in welding and adherence to safety protocols while contributing to the production process.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles and fits drawing dimensions of structural, plate, and mechanical materials.
  • Welds a variety of materials in all positions with high proficiency.
  • Follows applicable welding procedures (AWS, AISC).
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and plans the fitting operation.
  • Directs and assists in handling and spreading of material according to detail drawings.
  • Lays out work lines or fits up jigs for positioning material when required.
  • Cleans up material by grinding or chipping.
  • Burns and tack welds for assembly purposes.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 12 months of stable work experience preferred.
  • Must pass required weld test and fitter test.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and blueprints.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Cert in AWS D1.1 weld test is required.
  • Must adhere to and follow all safety rules and PPE requirements.
