Overview

As a Principal Weld Engineer at Impulse, you will develop, qualify, and optimize welding designs and processes using various welding techniques. This role is crucial for the development of Helios' structural tank and Deneb’s thrust chamber and engine components.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and qualify weld processes for multiple welding techniques.
  • Collaborate with design, tooling, automation, and development engineers to enhance welded designs.
  • Implement improved process control using test and NDE results.
  • Support production operations on full-scale welded assemblies.
  • Assist in the manufacturing and development of Helios tank and Deneb engine weldments.
  • Set up welding qualification test campaigns and interpret testing results.
  • Work with NDE personnel to assess weld quality on development and flight hardware.
  • Establish automated welding solutions for process consistency.
  • Explore new welding technologies to enhance rate, quality, and efficiency.
  • Conduct root cause analysis in collaboration with design, manufacturing, and materials engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in fabrication, manufacturing, or testing of welded assemblies.
  • Master’s degree in welding engineering or related technical program (preferred).
  • 8+ years of hands-on welding experience with various materials.
  • 8+ years of experience with brazing, joining, and metallographic interpretation.
  • Understanding of various welding processes.
  • Robot programming experience for automated welding solutions.
  • Tooling design experience for welded assemblies.
  • Knowledge of weld strength testing methodologies and standards.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Self-motivated with high attention to detail.
