Overview

The Library Assistant position is open exclusively to VTA employees represented by the local Amalgamated Transit Union, 265. The role involves assisting in the maintenance and repair of seat assemblies for VTA vehicles under general supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Develops patterns for seat assemblies.
  • Cuts upholstery materials as needed.
  • Reconstructs springs for seat assemblies.
  • Removes, installs, rebuilds, and repairs operator and passenger seat assemblies, cushions, and backrests.
  • Sews and fastens upholstery materials and welting.
  • Operates a power sewing machine.
  • May perform deliveries and installations at maintenance divisions.
  • Prepares written reports and documents defects and repairs.
  • Operates a computer for data input and retrieval.
  • May train other Upholsterers in proper methods.

Requirements

  • Training and experience equivalent to a high school diploma.
  • Completion of a recognized upholstering apprenticeship program.
  • Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license.
  • Ability to qualify for and maintain a Class B license with Passenger (P) endorsement.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and odd hours.
