Overview

The CNC Laser Operator position involves operating and setting up Amada CNC laser cutting systems and robotic welding cells to produce structural steel components that meet engineering specifications and quality standards. The role supports continuous improvement and safety initiatives within the manufacturing operation.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Amada CNC laser cutting equipment according to work orders and production schedules.
  • Perform routine operator maintenance on Amada laser equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Manufacture steel components while maintaining print specifications and required dimensional tolerances.
  • Set up, operate, monitor, and troubleshoot robotic welding cells for quality and efficiency.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and engineering drawings.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using precision measuring tools.
  • Inspect welded components for conformance to quality standards.
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections.
  • Load, unload, and organize materials using forklifts.
  • Perform machine changeovers and minor programming edits.
  • Identify and report quality concerns and production abnormalities.
  • Complete production reporting and quality documentation accurately.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities on laser systems and welding equipment.
  • Assist with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Attend work during the scheduled shift and be available for overtime.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One year of manufacturing, CNC equipment, fabrication, welding, or related industrial experience preferred.
  • Experience operating Amada laser cutting equipment is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering specifications.
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes and weld quality requirements.
  • Ability to identify dimensional defects and quality concerns.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing tolerances and precision measurement techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic programming experience or understanding of computers required.
  • Competent in basic dimensional measuring and shop math.
  • Ability to use a forklift.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and respond to change.
  • Ability to multitask and work with minimal supervision.
