Overview

The Shop Welding-Tacker position offers a pay rate of up to $27.00 per hour based on weld qualifications, with benefits available within the first 30 days of employment. The role involves welding metal components using the TIG process and requires passing an on-site Tacker Test.

Responsibilities

  • Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
  • Obtains specified electrode and inserts it into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
  • Connects cables from welding unit to obtain specified amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse.
  • Starts power supply to produce electric current.
  • Strikes arc to generate heat for joining edges of work piece.
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece using appropriate tools.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
  • Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
  • Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter using hand scraper or power chipper.
  • Preheats work piece using hand torch or heating furnace.
  • Positions and clamps work pieces together or assembles them in jig or fixture.
  • Tacks assemblies together.
  • Cuts metal plates or structural shapes.
  • Passes employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards.
  • Performs jobs only on which they have been trained and/or authorized.
  • Works in accordance with safe job practices and complies with company safety rules.
  • Uses required personal protective equipment.
  • Reports unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Cooperates during investigation of any accidents.
  • Participates in safety meetings and pre-job safety briefings.

  • Successfully pass the on-site Tacker Test.
  • Must pass visual inspection and x-ray.
