Overview

A growing food manufacturing company in the Idaho Falls area is seeking an experienced Welder / Fabricator to build, modify, and maintain custom production equipment. This position involves approximately 75% welding and fabrication and 25% equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG and TIG welding, primarily on stainless steel.
  • Fabricate complete machines, equipment frames, guards, and custom components.
  • Work with sheet metal and material ranging from approximately 3/16 inch to 1/4 inch thick.
  • Read and interpret fabrication prints, mechanical drawings, and electrical prints.
  • Measure, lay out, fit, assemble, and finish fabricated components.
  • Use plasma cutters, torches, grinders, brakes, shears, drill presses, and other fabrication equipment.
  • Assist with equipment design, modifications, and process-control improvements.
  • Support production and packaging line efficiency.
  • Assemble and set up equipment for daily production.
  • Make equipment adjustments based on weight checks and production requirements.
  • Tear down machinery for inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot conveyors, bearings, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, and related mechanical systems.
  • Follow USDA requirements and company food-safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Strong MIG and TIG welding experience.
  • Experience welding and fabricating stainless steel.
  • Ability to fabricate components and equipment from prints and drawings.
  • Strong mathematics, measurement, and layout skills.
  • Experience with product design, equipment design, or process control.
  • Comfortable working with sheet metal and material up to 1/4 inch thick.
  • Experience using common welding and fabrication tools.
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical prints.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot production equipment.
  • Ability to work second shift and approximately 5–10 hours of overtime per week.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG and TIG work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. It lays down metal fast and is forgiving on clean material, which is why it dominates production and light fabrication work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
