Overview

The Senior Mechanical Designer 1 - Nuclear position at Sargent & Lundy offers an opportunity to work on multi-disciplined engineering and design project teams, focusing on mechanical physical layout drawings in a 3-D model for the nuclear power industry. The role involves challenging assignments in mechanical and structural design while providing mentorship to less experienced team members.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical physical layout drawings in a 3-D model under the direction of the Mechanical Project Lead.
  • Design mechanical/structural systems and troubleshoot a variety of design issues.
  • Utilize 3D modeling software tools to generate design drawings.
  • Act as the Mechanical/Structural Responsible Designer for integrated mechanical design models.
  • Coordinate and guide other designers and project team members for timely design completion.
  • Independently plan and execute design deliverables such as general arrangements and piping isometrics.
  • Conduct field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities as needed.
  • Mentor less experienced drafters and designers.

Requirements

  • An Associate's Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma and 4+ years drafting course work or equivalent technical experience.
  • 10 or more years of detailed physical design experience in mechanical general arrangements and piping systems.
  • 5 or more years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
  • Proficiency with design software tools for 3D plant layout models.
  • Experience in reviewing mechanical equipment and developing associated deliverables.
  • Ability to interface with engineering and design teams of other disciplines.

Additional Information

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule requiring in-office work 3 days per week at the Sargent & Lundy office in Peachtree Corners, GA.
