Overview

AECOM is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join their Structural group to support the Water Business Line in Chicago, IL. The role involves designing new structures and conducting structural forensic work related to water treatment plant structures, commercial, and industrial buildings.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Works on detailed or routine structural engineering assignments involving hand calculations and computer modeling tasks.
  • Experience in technical writing of proposals and reports, using reasonable cost estimates and schedules.
  • Performs fieldwork to review building conditions and prepare detailed field sketches.
  • Occasional out-of-town traveling is necessary.
  • Proposes a creative approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures.
  • Identifies errors and discrepancies in results.
  • Guides and mentors entry-level engineers.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering work.
  • Client presentations are expected; therefore, acceptable levels of verbal and written communication skills are required.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Structural Engineering + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid Driver’s license and motor vehicle records check.
  • Valid SE license in the State of Illinois.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.
  • Microsoft Office Suite capabilities and use of standard office software.
  • Technical experience related to current structural design codes (IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE-07, etc.).
  • Capable of supporting multiple projects at a time and meeting project budgets and schedules.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in water industry structural design.
