Overview

Bowman has an opportunity for a Structural Engineer III to join their team in Chicago, IL. The role involves executing complex technical structural engineering techniques for transportation and infrastructure projects, with a preference for on-site work five days a week.

Responsibilities

• Execute complex technical structural engineering techniques for transportation and infrastructure projects.
• Independently apply extensive knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
• Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
• Serve as a lead/resource among colleagues to share technical proficiency and mentorship.
• Assist with marketing the firm's capabilities to establish new clients.
• Work closely with senior members to learn about structural engineering and planning work.
• Develop detailed structural designs alongside the project team.
• Evaluate complex engineering problems and develop successful solutions.
• Prepare engineering plans and reports in accordance with project requirements.
• Draft transmittals, memos, meeting minutes, and other documentation.
• Coordinate and conduct field visits for data collection and observations.
• Monitor project progress for technical accuracy and adherence to schedule and budget.
• Oversee the work of designers and EITs.
• Prepare internal and external technical presentations.
• Conduct technical quality control of multiple assigned projects.
• Lead in the preparation of proposals for multiple clients.
• Communicate with clients and attend project/public meetings.
• Develop and maintain accurate and organized project files.
• Assist and mentor junior staff.
• Prepare analyses and design aspects of preliminary and final design engineering projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
• Completed coursework in structural engineering required.
• Master’s degree in structural or civil engineering preferred.
• Five or more years of professional engineering experience with an emphasis on structural engineering required.
• EIT Registration required, or alternatively, six or more years of successful structural engineering experience required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) Registration or ability to receive within six months required.
• Structural Engineer (SE) Registration or ability to sit for 16-hour NCEES Structural exam within six months preferred.
• Approved Team Leader by IDOT for overseeing and conducting NBIS Bridge Inspections preferred.
• Experience with the preparation of construction plans and/or studies for structural projects required.
• Experience directing tasks and performing QA/QC required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
• Valid state driver's license and ability to pass a motor vehicle check preferred.
• Previous experience in all aspects of structural engineering design and inspection required.
• Proficient knowledge of BlueBeam required.
• Proficient knowledge of Bentley Open Roads Designer and/or AutoCAD and Civil3D required.
• Proficient knowledge of structural analysis and design software required.
• Working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications required.
• Familiarity with construction practices required.
