Overview

The Structural Engineer - Principal Engineer position at Vistra involves developing and maintaining structural engineering programs for the generation fleet, ensuring safe and reliable operation through inspections and designs. The role requires extensive subject matter expertise and effective coordination with various work groups.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and maintain fossil/renewables fleet structural inspection programs.
  • Incorporate personnel and public safety as a priority in plans and designs.
  • Prepare and present reports, sketches, and designs with recommendations.
  • Facilitate effective contractor management with engineering firms.
  • Ensure all project designs adhere to sound engineering practices.
  • Prepare and design civil/structural standards and operating procedures.
  • Provide cost and schedule estimates for inspections and repairs.
  • Perform assignments thoroughly and reliably.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Coordinate materials, personnel, and schedules effectively.
  • Communicate technical subjects and complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Explain options, costs, benefits, and risks clearly.
  • Persuade and negotiate solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Structural engineering experience preferred.
  • 8 years related job experience.
  • Registered PE preferred in at least one state with Vistra plant assets.
  • Experience in design, repair, and/or maintenance practices for power plant equipment.
  • Technically proficient in civil/structural engineering.
  • Cognizant of legal, regulatory, and code requirements for design constraints.
  • Understanding of design and construction objectives and parameters.
  • Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable.
