Overview

The Welder/Production Prep position involves performing welding duties primarily using MIG welding equipment and fabricating tube-steel frames and structures according to specifications. The role requires strong knowledge of welding principles and the ability to operate various metal fabrication tools efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Perform welding duties primarily using MIG welding equipment.
  • Fabricate and weld tube-steel frames and structures according to shop drawings, work orders, or verbal instructions.
  • Operate chop saws and cold saws to make accurate cuts.
  • Set up saws for repeatable production cuts while maintaining dimensional accuracy.
  • Plan cuts and material usage to improve efficiency and minimize scrap.
  • Measure, lay out, cut, bevel, notch, cope, and miter tube steel as required.
  • Fit and weld flat sheet-metal panels into tube-steel frames.
  • Properly fixture and tack assemblies before final welding.
  • Maintain fabricated structures square, level, straight, and true throughout the welding process.
  • Understand and compensate for heat distortion, weld pull, and material movement.
  • Weld feet, mounting plates, tabs, brackets, and other components onto tube-steel structures.
  • Grind, blend, clean, and finish welds to meet product specifications.
  • Inspect completed assemblies for dimensions, squareness, alignment, and weld quality.
  • Read and follow job specifications, work orders, and fabrication drawings.
  • Use common metal fabrication tools effectively.
  • Identify fabrication or drawing issues before components are permanently welded.
  • Cross-train and assist in other manufacturing operations as needed.
  • Lift, lower, position, and slide objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work independently and reliably with attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Proficient with MIG welding; TIG welding experience is a plus.
  • Experience fabricating tube-steel frames, weldments, or structural assemblies preferred.
  • Ability to produce clean, consistent welds on tube steel and sheet metal.
  • Ability to accurately cut and fit mitered and beveled joints.
  • Understanding of how to keep welded assemblies square and control distortion.
  • Previous manufacturing, metal fabrication, or welding-shop experience preferred.
  • Strong basic math skills and ability to read a tape measure and technical drawings.
  • Comfortable and proficient with fabrication tools.
  • Must have reliable transportation and excellent attendance.
  • Able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to work effectively with limited supervision and as part of a team.

What you'll be running
