Overview

The Track Equipment Maintainer (Automotive Mechanic) position involves inspecting, testing, maintaining, and repairing various electromechanical and hydraulic equipment used in the MTA New York City Transit subway system. The role requires passing a Civil Service Exam for permanent status and offers competitive pay and benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, maintain, alter, repair, and operate electromechanical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Maintain, repair, and operate cranes, tampers, compressors, front-end loaders, engines, and motors.
  • Drive trucks and keep records.
  • Make computations and prepare reports.
  • Perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • Completion of a four-year full-time apprenticeship in an electro-mechanical trade recognized by relevant authorities.
  • Two years of full-time satisfactory journey-level mechanic experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience must include work on heavy equipment or transportation vehicles.
  • Possession of a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) valid in New York with an endorsement for hazardous materials.
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English.
