Overview

The Furnace Operator at G&W Electric is responsible for regulating furnace temperatures and managing the metal pouring process. G&W Electric is a global leader in engineered electrical power grid solutions, focused on employee success and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Regulate the temperature of the furnace and charge a mixture of gates, scrap, and ingot in the correct proportions.
  • Add necessary fluxes and master alloys to each heat.
  • Degas metal as required and test for presence of gas in molten metal.
  • Remove molten metal from the furnace when at proper pouring temperature.
  • Record temperature and treatment additions for quality control.
  • Remove slag from molten metal and transport ladles of metal to the molding line.
  • Pour metal into molds at the proper height and rate.

Requirements

  • Has math, computer, and communication skills.
  • Must understand and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Holds a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Ideally has experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a foundry.
