Overview

At the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, we deliver reliable water to a region with 19 million people, relying on a team of talented employees. The Engineer role combines technical expertise and hands-on design to support critical water infrastructure, including structural calculations and seismic evaluations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review structural design criteria, calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and reports for water treatment, conveyance, and distribution systems.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee projects to monitor scope, quality, budget, and schedule.
  • Lead and perform site and construction inspections, structural evaluations, and submittal reviews to resolve performance, operation, or reliability issues.
  • Lead project teams, oversee the work of external vendors and consultants, and negotiate contracts or agreements to ensure seamless execution.
  • Conduct studies, lead the preparation of technical documents and reports, and deliver oral presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the planning and execution of technical tests, investigations of existing structures and equipment, and special assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and six years of relevant experience, including two years at the Associate Engineer level; OR a Master’s degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience, including two years at the Associate Engineer level.
  • Experience in structural analysis and design of both building and non-building type structures.
  • Experience in 2D and 3D finite element modeling using FEM programs such as SAP2000, ETABS, RISA 3D, or similar programs.
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent required at time of application.
  • License in good standing as a California Professional Engineer required at the time of application.

  • Schedule: 44/36 Monday through Friday with every other Friday off.
  • Hybrid work schedule with typically two days a week in person and the other days remote.
  • Travel required to various District facilities throughout the service area.
