Overview

This position serves as a Pipefitter within the Maintenance and Operations section of the Engineering Service at Marion VA Medical Center in Marion, IL. The role involves supporting various clinical areas of the medical center, including the Intensive Care Unit, Operating Room, and other health care centers.

Responsibilities

  • Install, modify, and repair varying pressure piping systems and equipment such as medical gas and vacuum systems.
  • Inspect, test, clean, repair, and replace steam traps and condensate traps.
  • Perform troubleshooting on failed or misinstalled steam traps and repipe steam and condensate lines as needed.
  • Work from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out piping systems.
  • Install, modify, and repair pressure piping systems through various structural materials.
  • Create openings by drilling or cutting and install hangers to ensure correct pitch and elevation.
  • Ensure all components are properly configured to support system pressure and maintain safe operation.
  • Install and repair utility supply and disposal systems including air, sewage, and gas lines.
  • Accurately estimate material requirements and provide a material list to the supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean shop environment and return work sites to safe conditions upon completing tasks.
  • Support and assist Plumbers as required and escort contractors when requested.
  • Provide additional labor services including cleaning and snow removal.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Work Schedule: M_F 7:00am-3:30pm
  • Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, and working in cramped spaces.
