Overview

The Service Engineer position at UCLA involves installing, maintaining, and repairing commercial and domestic refrigeration systems to support the university's mission of providing a thriving environment for students, faculty, and staff. The role requires extensive knowledge in refrigeration theory, electrical systems, and various heating and cooling equipment.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair commercial and domestic refrigeration systems.
• Utilize knowledge of refrigeration theory and computation of loads and capacities.
• Install refrigerant piping involving hand soldering.
• Maintain, repair, and overhaul air conditioning refrigeration systems.
• Operate, maintain, and repair air moving, heating, cooling, humidification, distribution, and filtering equipment.
• Maintain and repair high and low pressure boilers and their combustion and control systems.

Requirements

• Knowledge and experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration systems and related equipment.
• Working knowledge of water treatment methods, electrical circuitry, and electric motors.
• Detailed knowledge in the operation, maintenance, and repair of steam piping systems and related components.
• Ability to compute loads and capacities and modify mechanical building systems for efficiency.
• Experience in operation, maintenance, and repair of air moving and heating systems.
• Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings and technical instructions.
• Ability to evaluate repair needs and plan corrective measures.
• Ability to operate trade-related hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of UBC, OSHA, and ADA requirements.
• Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.

Additional Information

• Work schedule is from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
• Position is covered by K4-Skilled Crafts-UCLA union.
